Episode Three of Larchfield
arrives in your inbox tomorrow at 7pm. This week’s episode is called ‘May God Go With You’ and is as unsettling and immersive as that title suggests, featuring birth, death, dour church elders, and Amy Johnson!
A little note on my secret inspiration:
On May 24th 1930 during the time of WH Auden’s first term at Larchfield School, Amy Johnson successfully landed in Australia having made an 11,000 mile solo flight from England. This was big news at the time and the line I quote Auden saying in the book ‘There is something peculiar about women pilots’ is taken from his genre busting book written whilst at Larchfield, The Orators. This book was a major source of inspiration for the Wystan I create in the novel, packed as it is with references to Helensburgh and life at the school.
If you think a friend may enjoy Larchfield, please share this post!
Last Thursday Graham Linehan and I recorded a fascinating interview exclusively for Monday Night Reads. We talked about writing before and after cancellation, AI and how it affects writers, and how to keep writing in a time of political turmoil. As well as touching on the background to his cancellation, and how his future is unfolding. And MORE.
I’m so excited to bring this to you, as my first writer interview. It’s being edited at the moment, and I’ll keep you up to date with news about its release.
Another excellent reason to take up the 10% paid subscription offer!
