Sunday Supplement
Ocean's publication, Craft Essay, Edinburgh Book Festival, New Books, Graham Linehan Interview, Hour Club
Happy Sunday, and welcome to new subscribers. I am so glad you’re here. Today’s supplement contains a digest of of the week’s recent news and posts, and your link to Hour Club. Happy reading!
OCEAN Publication
I’m thrilled that Ocean will be published by Eye Books in hardback and e-book June 2025. Click on the image or button for details.
I set up this substack to serialise Ocean as a podcast and your feedback and encouragement definitely aided its being noticed. I am so grateful to you all. Now making a further edit of the text, and the excitement begins! And, friends I am so excited. You are all friends of Ocean, and will be first to hear about its journey into the world.
The podcast version is available on Spotify to paid subscribers, with two free episodes for all.
Craft Essay on Risk in writing.
I wrote my first memoir craft post this week, on the subject of Risk. Larkin said (and I paraphrase) that a poet’s life should be outwardly unremarkable and the drama all saved for the work. Famously he was a librarian. The writer you see (or don’t) seeming to live so quietly is, perhaps, riding a rollercoaster of thought and feeling for the page. Send her nice messages! Feed her grapes!
This essay is available to all subscribers. Click the image or the button!
Join me at the Edinburgh Book Festival
Congratulations to Samantha Harvey for her Book Prize longlisting for Orbital. I will be in conversation with Samantha Harvey and Lavinia Greenlaw at the Edinburgh Book Festival on Monday 12 August. Click the image below or the button for details and tickets.
Hounded by Jenny Lindsay
I’m thrilled to have an advance copy of Hounded by poet Jenny Lindsay (also a subscriber to this site!). CONGRATULATIONS on this wonderful achievement. The contents are embargoed until next month, but I can say now there is no one better placed to write on this ancient, yet woefully modern phenomenon of trying to silence women who speak out.
I will be talking more about this important book when allowed, but in the meantime, this is from the publicity, and do preorder by clicking the button below!
COMING SOON…
a very special studio interview with Graham Linehan on his craft and life as an artist after cancellation. Currently putting the finishing touches to this and can’t wait to bring it exclusively to Monday Night Reads subscribers very soon.
And finally…
Below is the link for Hour Club, tomorrow at 7pm. Join us, and get some writing and thinking done with me and likeminded others, hosted from the deck of my boat.
And don’t forget Episode Seven of Larchfield arrives tomorrow at 7pm!
Till next time, friends.
